Rockville, MD, Sept. 15, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) congratulates the TV series The Pitt for receiving yesterday an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Drama Series” for the second year in a row. Altogether, the series has won several Emmys in various categories over the last two years as well.
Soon, The Pitt will receive yet another award when ASHA presents it with its Annie Glenn Award at ASHA’s annual convention in November. Named after the late Annie Glenn, a long and tireless champion for people with communication disorders, the award is presented to individuals, organizations, and entities that follow in Ms. Glenn’s footsteps.
Set in the emergency department of a Pittsburgh hospital, the Max Original series from John Wells Productions and Warner Bros.Television has regularly portrayed the need for effective communication in health care settings. Consistently, too, the show has illustrated the very different experiences of patients depending on whether they had access to communication or not during the time of their medical emergency visit.
“It is very exciting to see a show like The Pitt be highly recognized as it was yesterday,” ASHA President Linda I. Rosa-Lugo, EdD, CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, said.
“It is a tremendous beacon of the importance of communication. As the series’ creator, R. Scott Gemmill, said after being notified that ASHA wanted to present its Annie Glenn Award to the TV series, ‘. . . The Pitt is committed to the portrayal of real-life challenges around communication and access in the Emergency Room with the aim to raise awareness and offer solutions.’”
Gemmill also expressed his gratitude for ASHA’s example of advocacy and progress, and “their work that continues to raise the bar for The Pitt and the world around us.”
Valerie Chu, a co-producer and writer for the TV series, will receive The Annie Glenn Award on behalf of The Pitt on Friday, November 20, 2026, at an evening awards program at the Indianapolis Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium.
